Courthouse Square Troubles

continued

On October 31, 2009, Sally Wright Day wrote:
We heard from several readers about our October feature on Courthouse Square. After reading the story, resident Ruth Darcy rolled her wheelchair into the Observer office to make two corrections. It wasn't she who called the building's problem tenants "white trash and ghetto blacks," Darcy explained: "I said, other people would call them that. I never use those terms." And while she believes the building's management should screen prospective tenants better and check in on elderly residents more often, that doesn't mean she wants the building sold: "I worked nine years to get these people [the current managers] to respect me."

We also misidentified the nonprofit that intervened on behalf of the tenant involved in a knifing. It was the Housing Bureau for Seniors.
