Human Rights Photo Exhibit by David Turnley: U-M International Institute.

David C. Turnley is a world renowned photographer, filmmaker, and University of Michigan Alumnus. He received the Pulitzer Prize in photography and filmmaking for his coverage of The Revolutions of 1989, including the fall of the Berlin Wall and Tiananmen Square in China.

In addition, he was twice awarded the World Press Picture of the Year, the prestigious Robert Capa Award for Courage and four Overseas Press Club Awards.

Oct. 11-14 & 18-21.U-M musical theater professor Mark Madama directs musical theater students in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine�s 1985 Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about the austere courage of the individual artist. The play juxtaposes a fictional reconstruction of the process by which the 19th-century French neo-impressionist Georges Seurat created his masterpiece, �A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,� against a fantasy about the contemporary artistic aspirations of Seurat�s fictitious great-grandson. Former New York Times drama critic Frank Rich called the play �an audacious, haunting, and touching work that sets the stage for the musical theater�s future� and describes its music as a �lovely, wildly inventive score outfitted with lyrics both funny and wise.�

Tim Rhoze directs Tennessee Williams�s poetic psychological melodrama about a faded southern belle with illusions of past greatness whose ambitions and pretensions drive her 2 children to the edge of sanity. The story is set out as a reminiscence by her unhappy, rebellious son, a would-be writer working in a shoe factory. Her physically handicapped daughter has retreated into a dream world supported by her collection of delicate glass animals. The family�s fantasy lives are challenged when, at the mother�s insistence, the brother invites a �gentleman caller� to dinner to court his sister. Stars Carla Milarch.
