With the local teen dance bands I-Funk, H.M.S. Epidemic, Adam & Evil, and The Tired Tricycles. Proceeds benefit the annual Community High School Commstock festival.
The Blind Pig:
Ann Arbor Dub Project.
Local reggae-rock band. Opening acts are 3 other Michigan reggae bands, Maddis, Burnin' Man, and Mystic Man. May 10: Scotch Bonnet. Downriver psychedelic garage-rock band led by singer-songwriter Scotty Karate. Opening acts are the Detroit blues-rock quartet The Universal Temple of Divine Power, the Ypsilanti punkabilly metal quintet Chapstik, and the Detroit blues and rock band Hotness.

Local DJs spin old-school rock.

(5:30-8:30 p.m.) : Steve Newhouse & the Nuke-a-billies. Veteran local classic country and country-rock band led by singer-guitarist Newhouse. With guitarist Kevin Brown, bassist Chris Goerke, and drummer Eric Nyhuis.

Twang-filled acoustic country and American roots music by the duo of local singer-guitarists S. G. Wood and Rachel Hercula. Winner of a Detroit Music Award as Best Country Band.

Jazz ensemble featuring pianist Burgess, drummer Robert Warren, and bassist Russel Tessier.
Elbow Room:
Scott Morgan's Powertrane
Hard-edged blues and 60s-style Detroit rock 'n' roll by this quartet led by veteran singer-songwriter Morgan, a fixture on the local rock scene since his days with the legendary Rationals in the 60s. Morgan is also one of the best blues singers in town, with a sharp-edged, cannily rhythmic vocal attack that's both mean and soulful. Opening acts are the Farewells, an indie neopsychedelic rock band from Wyandotte, and Royale, an Ypsilanti rock band.
The Firefly Club:
Easy Street Swingtet
(5:30-8 p.m.) Dixieland and swing by this local ensemble led by saxophonist and trumpeter Paul Klinger.

Jeff Hamilton Trio.
Full-bodied blues- and gospel-inflected jazz by an ensemble led by this veteran Detroit pianist and vocalist known for his blend of technical virtuosity and interpretive sensitivity. O'Neal has played with the likes of Milt Jackson, Art Blakey, and Wynton Marsalis, and he appeared as the legendary pianist Art Tatum in the acclaimed Ray Charles biopic Ray. Tonight's show is an Oscar Peterson tribute. His trio includes 2 local jazz luminaries, drummer Pete Siers and bassist Paul Keller. Advance tickets: $20 & $30. 9 & 11 p.m.
