The Ark: Aimee Mann

Sold Out. A cofounder of the early 80s New Wave band ’Til Tuesday who first gained mainstream attention when 8 of her songs were featured on the soundtrack of the 1999 film Magnolia, Mann is a veteran pop-rock singer-songwriter who specializes in spare, sharply incised snapshots of human relationships in varying states of disrepair. Her new CD, Smilers, a collection of spare, vivid, tuneful portraits of the inner lives of assorted marginalized eccentrics. She is accompanied by an acoustic trio. $40. [venue info]

The Blind Pig: Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s

Critically acclaimed chamber pop-rock sextet from Indianapolis. Opening acts are The Lonely Forest, a Seattle-area postpunk pop quartet fronted by the passionate vocals of singer- songwriter John Van Deusen, and Cameron McGill & What Army, a Chicago psychedelic folk-rock trio.
