The Ark: The Parkington Sisters

Experimental chamber pop-rock featuring vibrant string arrangements and gorgeous vocal harmonies by this acoustic quintet of classically trained sisters from Cape Cod. Opening act is Lake Folk, a local acoustic Americana string quintet (cello, bass, banjo, guitar) whose repertoire includes murder ballads and other dark traditional songs. FREE. [venue info]

The Blind Pig: !!! (Chk Chk Chk)

Acclaimed postpunk polyrhythmic dance-pop septet from Sacramento now based in Brooklyn (NY). Pitchfork reviewer Brian Howe praises the band’s 2007 CD Myth Takes for its “incendiary disco-punk raveups” and singles out the antic theatricality of frontman Nic Offer as at once. “ridiculous, extravagant, and totally awesome.” The band has a brand-new CD, Strange Weather, Isn’t it? The Savoy: Lohio

Highly regarded Pittsburgh indie folk-rock quartet whose music has been described as a blend of “intimate, instrumentally rich folk songs [with] Midwestern-infused, Neil Young-esque indie rock.” Opening acts are Donora, a Pittsburgh folk-rock trio, and Annie Palmer, an Ypsilanti pop-folk singer-songwriter. 8-11 p.m. [venue info]
