Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA)


AATA buses are accessible to persons with disabilities. Each is equipped with a ramp to accommodate two wheelchair users.

A-Ride (AATA)

Shared-ride program that uses lift- or ramp-equipped vans or cabs. Available in the cities of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti and in Pittsfield, Superior, and Ypsilanti townships. Eligibility for A-Ride requires submitting medical certification of disability. Fare $2 for an advanced reservation, $3 for a same-day trip. Reservations accepted up to two weeks before trip. Service available Mon.–Fri. 6:30 a.m.–10:45 p.m., Sat. & Sun. 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m. A-Ride cardholders also can ride AATA fixed-route buses for a reduced fare.

Emergency Ride Home (U-M)

Provides rides, in non-life-threatening emergency situations only, for university students, faculty, and staff from a campus location to a private residence. No charge; available anytime. Six rides allowed a year.


Health Plus Transportation

Private company provides 24-hour nonemergency transportation, including wheelchair transport with lift-equipped vans. $70 round trip plus $2.80/mile for wheelchair service; $52 round trip plus $2.50/mile for nonwheelchair service.


Mobility Transportation (Huron Valley Ambulance)

Provides nonemergency transportation for seniors and those in wheelchairs, using radio-equipped vans with lifts. CPR-trained technicians provide door-to-door service. Service is first come, first served; book well in advance if possible. The rate is $38 each way plus $1.65/mile. Payment required at time of service; cash, check, or credit cards accepted. Mon.–Fri. 6:30 a.m.–6 p.m., Sat. 7 a.m.– 5 p.m. No service Sun. www.hva.org


Neighborhood Senior Services Medical Access

Volunteers accompany riders to essential medical appointments, Mon.– Fri. 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Appointments must be arranged two weeks in advance. Cost based on income. www.nssweb.org


Night Ride (AATA)

Shared-ride program, open to all, that uses either a lift-equipped van or a taxi. Service is available within the Ann Arbor city limits. Response time is 5–45 minutes (20 minutes average). Allow about an hour for travel time. Fare is $5/person, regardless of destination, and one child age 5 or under can ride free per paid fare. Mon.–Fri. 11 p.m.–5:30 a.m., Sat. & Sun. 7 p.m.–7 a.m. Holders of the A-Ride Card (for people with disabilities) or the Senior Card ride for $2.50. All trips must be reserved by phone in advance. Holiday Ride offers the same services by private van or taxi, on major holidays when AATA bus service is not operating.

Senior Cards (AATA)

Apply at AATA headquarters, 2700 South Industrial, Mon.–Fri. 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. Good as Gold Program available to riders age 65 & over. Cardholders can ride AATA buses for a reduced fare and use the Senior Taxi (a shared-ride transportation service). The shared-ride fare is $2 with advance registration ($3 for same-day trips) within the city of Ann Arbor service area. Mon.–Fri. 6:30 a.m.–10:45 p.m., Sat. & Sun. 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Persons ages 60–64 can ride AATA buses for half fare with an AATA Fare Deal ID Card.
