Washtenaw Community College (4800 E. Huron River Dr.) offers more than 130 associate degrees and certificates in four general areas: business and computer technologies; health and applied technologies; humanities and social sciences; and math, natural sciences, and behavioral sciences. Nearly 20,000 students are enrolled each year in credit courses, with an additional 8,000 in noncredit courses. Certificates and degrees are awarded to more than 1,600 students annually. Continuing education and extension programs offer credit, noncredit, and online instruction. WCC also offers employee training and seminars (call 677–5008).

In addition to its main campus across from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, WCC has regional centers in Ypsilanti, Scio Township, Brighton, and Hartland. Prospective students can apply, register, and pay online. They can also call the Student Connection Office (973–3543) to request more information or ask questions about applying to the college. There is no application fee. Residents of Washtenaw County receive preferential admission to high-demand programs. The Washtenaw Community College Harriet Street Center (332 Harriet, Ypsilanti; 480–9950) provides computer classes. The H. S. Landau Design and Construction Training Center (1150 James L. Hart Pkwy., Ypsilanti; 961–0516) offers classes in residential design and construction. Students construct homes on the premises.

Tuition is $67/credit hour for county residents, $115 for other Michigan residents, and $155 for out-of-state residents. There is a $7/credit hour technology fee. Distance learning courses are $70/credit hour regardless of residency. Some classes have a fee of $2 for each additional contact hour. To audit a class (no grade or course credit), students must register and pay the regular tuition. County residents age 65 & over (as of the semester start) pay class fees but no tuition.
